Shudder is turning up the heat this August with an eclectic lineup that spans blood-soaked slashers, creature features, surreal comedies, psychological horror, and an impressive collection of repertory classics. Between new originals, exclusive premieres, curated watch parties, and beloved catalog additions, the horror streaming service is offering something for nearly every kind of genre fan.

Leading the month’s original programming is Hellcat, Brock Bodell’s claustrophobic horror thriller, which arrives Aug. 14. Starring Dakota Gorman, the film follows a young woman who awakens inside a moving camper with a gruesome wound and just one hour to reach medical help before an unimaginable transformation takes hold. Early promotional material points toward a tense blend of body horror, paranoia, and psychological suspense.

Closing out the month is Penny Lane Is Dead, Mia-Kate Russell’s blood-soaked Australian slasher that premieres Aug. 28. Set during a sweltering summer night in 1986, the coming-of-age revenge tale transforms an innocent celebration into a brutal nightmare after a cruel prank involving drug-laced cupcakes spirals into deadly consequences. The film recently celebrated its North American premiere at Fantasia and continues Shudder’s growing investment in international horror voices.

Creature-feature fans won’t have to wait long, as The Yeti stomps onto the service Aug. 7. Directed by Gene Gallerano and William Pisciotta, the survival thriller follows a rescue team searching for two missing explorers in remote Alaska, only to discover they’ve entered the hunting grounds of a legendary predator. Starring Corbin Bernsen, William Sadler, and a towering cryptid, the film promises old-school monster movie thrills.

Perhaps the most intriguing newcomer is Buffet Infinity, arriving Aug. 21. George A. Romero fans receive two notable additions with Bruiser and the documentary George A. Romero’s Resident Evil, which explores the legendary filmmaker’s never-produced adaptation of Capcom’s iconic survival horror franchise. Peter Jackson’s supernatural classic The Frighteners, starring Michael J. Fox, also joins the service, alongside Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight and Tales From the Crypt: Bordello of Blood, giving subscribers two fan-favorite horror anthologies from the 1990s.

International horror receives a substantial boost with films including Salt Along the Tongue, Dark Nuns, Devils Stay, 13 Exorcisms, The Book of Sijjin and Illiyyin, and They Came Back, while cult cinema enthusiasts can revisit oddities like Baxter, And Soon the Darkness, The Bell from Hell, and Supernatural.

One of the month’s most significant catalog additions arrives Aug. 17 with Threads, Mick Jackson’s devastating nuclear apocalypse masterpiece that remains one of the most harrowing films ever produced. Decades after its original release, its bleak depiction of societal collapse continues to resonate with audiences and stands as essential viewing for horror fans interested in the genre’s most sobering works.
