Official Trailer + Key Art Unleashed for Shudder Horror DOLLY, Hitting Theaters March 6
Independent Film Company and Shudder have unveiled the official trailer and key art for DOLLY, a grimy, nerve-fraying new horror feature set for a theatrical release on March 6. Directed, co-written, and produced by Rod Blackhurst (Night Swim, Amanda Knox, Here Alone), the film leans hard into tactile terror, regional atmosphere, and the kind of stripped-down cruelty that defined early backwoods horror.
Starring Fabianne Therese, Seann William Scott, Ethan Suplee, and underground icon Max the Impaler, DOLLY follows Macy, a young woman abducted and dragged deep into the woods by a deranged, monster-like figure who intends to raise her as his child. What unfolds is a brutal fight for autonomy, survival, and identity — one rooted in isolation rather than spectacle.
Blackhurst’s approach is intentionally raw. The film embraces gritty craftsmanship, practical effects, and a suffocating sense of place that seeps into every frame. There’s a clear lineage here: echoes of 1970s American regional horror collide with the emotional extremity of New French Extremity, resulting in something ugly, confrontational, and deeply uncomfortable by design. This isn’t polished studio terror — it’s handmade horror, born in the dirt and blood of the woods.
We had the chance to catch DOLLY during its Fantastic Fest run and speak with Blackhurst and the crew about the film’s tactile philosophy and confrontational tone. It’s a project that doesn’t chase likability or easy catharsis, instead committing to sustained dread and moral unease — a choice that will likely divide audiences in the best way possible.
With its theatrical rollout just weeks away, DOLLY is shaping up to be one of the more uncompromising horror releases of the season. We’re very curious to see how audiences respond once the chaos and cruelty are unleashed nationwide.
DOLLY opens in theaters March 6, ahead of its streaming release on Shudder. Keep an eye out for our full review and extended coverage soon.
