Slanted Cast and Filmmakers Celebrate Los Angeles Screening Ahead of March Theatrical Release

Bleecker Street and Tideline Entertainment hosted a special Los Angeles screening of their upcoming satirical body-horror film Slanted on March 3 at Vidiots, bringing together the film’s cast, filmmakers, and a number of notable guests ahead of its nationwide theatrical release later this month.

The event celebrated writer and director Amy Wang and her provocative genre film that blends satire, science fiction, and body horror into a story about identity, beauty standards, and the cost of assimilation.

In attendance were stars Shirley Chen, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Amelie Zilber, and Vivian Wu alongside producers Mark Ankner and Trevor Wall. The screening also drew additional guests including Fred Armisen, Janina Gavankar, Kimiko Glenn, Karan Soni, Fin Argus, and filmmaker Sean Wang.

Following the screening, Vanity Fair senior Hollywood correspondent Rebecca Ford moderated a Q&A with Wang and members of the cast, where the conversation centered on themes of identity and the deeply personal experiences that shaped their connection to the film’s characters.

Cast members also reflected on the collaborative atmosphere on set, highlighting Wang’s approach to filmmaking and how her vision helped guide performances while fostering a supportive environment throughout the production.

Slanted follows Joan Huang, a teenager who idolizes the popular girls at her high school and dreams of becoming prom queen. But surrounded by portraits of past queens who all look the same, Joan begins to believe that fitting in might require more than confidence.

Her answer arrives in the form of Ethnos, a mysterious cosmetic surgery clinic offering a disturbing promise: a procedure that transforms people of color into white patients.

After undergoing the operation, Joan wakes up as a blonde version of herself seemingly destined for popularity and acceptance. But the transformation comes with consequences that quickly spiral into something far darker.

Blending biting social satire with sci-fi horror and body-transformation elements, Slanted explores questions about identity, beauty standards, and cultural pressure through a genre lens.

The film stars Shirley Chen, Mckenna Grace, Vivian Wu, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Amelie Zilber, Fang Du, Elaine Hendrix, and R. Keith Harris.

Bleecker Street and Tideline Entertainment will release Slanted in theaters nationwide on March 13, 2026.
