South by Southwest is officially turning up the volume for 2026.
South by Southwest has announced that more than 300 additional showcasing artists have been added to the 40th SXSW Music Festival, set to run March 12–18, 2026, further cementing Austin’s role as the global epicenter for music discovery.
The newly expanded lineup spans 50+ countries, bringing an eclectic mix of rising talent, genre disruptors, and underground standouts into clubs and venues across the city for seven straight nights. For SXSW, this year’s announcement isn’t just about scale—it’s about intent.
“Our goal has always been to curate a lineup that reflects the future of music,” said Brian Hobbs, SXSW’s VP of Music. “The artists we’re announcing today represent the cutting edge of creativity and commercial potential.”
Among the headline showcase events are Rolling Stone’s Future of Music Showcase (March 12–14), featuring Lola Young, Fuerza Regida, and BigXthaPlug, and Billboard Presents THE STAGE (March 13–15), with Don Toliver, Junior H, and Mau P. Newly announced showcase presenters include Anniversary Group, Beer n Tacos, Big Loud, Fire Records, M for Montreal, PlantWave, and rocknite.
For us at Horror Movies Uncut, this announcement hits differently.
While we covered SXSW remotely last year—highlighting artists and soaking up the sonic chaos from afar—SXSW 2026 marks our return to the ground, with full, in-person coverage of the music showcases. And while HMU has never positioned itself as a pop, country, or mainstream hip-hop outlet, music has always been part of our DNA. If it’s strange, abrasive, experimental, dark, industrial, heavy, or just a little off, we’re listening.
That’s why this lineup is loaded with promise.
From post-punk, metal, and hardcore to experimental hip-hop, goth-adjacent electronics, and left-field global sounds, SXSW 2026 feels tailor-made for discovery. Early standouts already on our radar include 60s Juno, Agatha Is Dead, Akira Galaxy, Ancient Greece, Hip Hopera, Blood Sports, Cheap Perfume, Cure for Paranoia, and Night Drive, Austin’s own new wave torchbearers.
There’s also strong hometown pride this year, with AJ McQueen and Kids representing St. Louis on the SXSW stage—artists we’ll absolutely be tracking closely once the festival kicks off.
International heavy hitters are equally compelling: Tokyo indie-rock outfit Enfants, Taiwanese metal act Flesh Juicer, Toronto hardcore band OOZ, Berlin’s Joplin, Australia’s Haters, and Mexico’s Man Rab all point to a lineup that refuses to sit comfortably in one lane.
And yes—BigXthaPlug is on our must-see list. No hesitation.
The full artist roster is massive, overwhelming in the best way, and exactly why SXSW continues to matter. Discovery isn’t a buzzword here—it’s the mission. Over the coming months, we’ll be digging through playlists, spotlighting artists that align with the HMU audience, and doing our best to snag interviews along the way.
Music and movies have always gone hand in hand, and there’s no place where that relationship feels more alive than Austin in March.
SXSW 2026 is coming fast.
And Horror Movies Uncut will be there—loud, curious, and ready to wander into the noise.
