She Rides Shotgun: Taron Egerton Goes Full-Throttle in Brutal, Tender Thriller from Lionsgate

Lionsgate and Fifth Season just dropped the first look at She Rides Shotgun, an emotionally raw and pulse-pounding action-thriller set for a limited theatrical release on August 1st, 2025. Directed by Nick Rowland (Calm with Horses), the film stars Taron Egerton as Nate, a hardened ex-con fighting to protect his estranged daughter Polly—played by breakout talent Ana Sophia Heger—from a vicious criminal syndicate.

Based on Jordan Harper’s award-winning novel, the story follows Nate’s high-octane race for redemption after a stint behind bars lands him straight into the crosshairs of a corrupt sheriff and a merciless gang leader. With Polly—shy, curious, and unsure of the father she barely knows—alongside him, Nate’s fight isn’t just for survival, but for a chance at healing the bond they never had.

“It is without doubt the most tender and felt relationship I have had with an actor on screen,” said Egerton. “Ana Sophia Heger is nothing short of extraordinary.”

Tightly crafted by Rowland and emotionally supercharged by Egerton and Heger’s dynamic, She Rides Shotgun balances grit and grace with a visual language that captures both savagery and soul.

“There’s tenderness in the trauma,” Rowland said of the film’s thematic core. “It’s about emotional survival—and how love can grow even in the darkest places.”

The cast is rounded out by a slate of soon-to-be-revealed character actors portraying the film’s menacing adversaries, building a world where trust is scarce and danger lurks around every corner.

Lionsgate EVP Lauren Bixby praised the powerhouse pairing of Egerton and Heger, calling their performances “so extraordinary that you take notice,” and describing the project as “a captivating experience that will leave the audience changed.”

The film was produced by Waypoint Entertainment, Makeready, and Super Frog, continuing Lionsgate’s recent push into prestige genre storytelling.
