The Blair Witch Project Returns with Definitive Blu-ray and VHS Collector’s Edition This October

The Blair Witch Project receives a newly restored Blu-ray and VHS collector’s edition on October 13.

The Blair Witch Project is returning in a definitive new home video edition as Lionsgate prepares a Blu-ray and VHS release for October 13.

The groundbreaking 1999 found footage horror film will be presented in a newly remastered two-disc Blu-ray edition featuring multiple versions of the film, including a filmmaker-approved restored theatrical cut and festival cut. Both versions have been restored from the original Hi8 videotapes and 16mm film elements and will be available in the United States for the first time.

The release will also include the original 35mm theatrical exhibition version, giving collectors the opportunity to revisit the film through several presentations that reflect its festival origins, theatrical release, and restored source materials.

Directed and written by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez, The Blair Witch Project follows three student filmmakers who travel into the Maryland woods to document the local legend of the Blair Witch. After they disappear, their recovered footage becomes the only record of what happened during their final days in the forest.

The new Blu-ray and Digital release will include several newly produced Lionsgate Limited extras. Season of the Witch features new interviews with the filmmakers and actors Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams. Additional featurettes include Expanded Lore, The Matt Blazi Project, Mythos, Eternal Impact, Iconic Artifacts: The Blair Witch Project at MOPOP, and Film Is Life: A Tribute to Cinematographer Neal Fredericks.

Legacy material will also be included, led by an audio commentary with directors Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Myrick, producer Rob Cowie, and co-producer Michael Monello. The commentary will only be available with the original 35mm theatrical version.

Other returning extras include the Curse of the Blair Witch mockumentary, Sticks and Stones: An Exploration of the Blair Witch Legend, The Blair Witch Legacy, Analogue Horror in a Digital World, deleted scenes, archival interviews from Cannes 1999, director interviews, alternate endings, B-roll footage, and four theatrical trailers.

The package will feature artwork by Chuck Styles. Lionsgate has also announced a VHS edition, extending the release beyond Blu-ray and Digital with a format directly connected to the film’s analog visual identity.
