BEYOND FEST 2025 HOSTS U.S. PREMIERE OF KENJI TANIGAKI’S MARTIAL ARTS EPIC THE FURIOUS
The TIFF Midnight Madness breakout The Furious is making its way to Los Angeles for its official U.S. premiere at Beyond Fest. The screening takes place Friday, September 26, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the historic Egyptian Theatre.
Directed by renowned action stylist Kenji Tanigaki (Rurouni Kenshin franchise) and produced by Bill Kong (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), The Furious boasts a pan-regional, star-studded cast of Asian martial arts talent. The film is presented in English and deliberately avoids a single national identity, leaning instead into its global vision of modern action storytelling.
Set in a small Southeast Asian country, the film follows Wang Wei, a skilled martial artist whose daughter Rainy is abducted by a child-trafficking ring. Determined to rescue her, Wang Wei tears through layers of corruption and brutality, confronting both compromised police and the criminals responsible. His path crosses with Navin, a journalist still searching for answers to his wife’s disappearance. Together, the pair wage an unrelenting assault on the syndicate, uncovering hidden truths while freeing Rainy and other victims from captivity.
With intricate choreography, raw physicality, and high emotional stakes, The Furious positions itself as one of the year’s most ambitious martial arts thrillers. Its focus on dismantling a trafficking network gives the film an urgent, topical resonance alongside the spectacle of Tanigaki’s signature fight design.
Audiences at TIFF’s Midnight Madness hailed The Furious as a high-octane blend of tradition and modernity in the action genre. Beyond Fest will now give U.S. audiences their first chance to experience the film’s relentless momentum on the big screen.
