‘The Room Below’ Trailer Pairs Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Alyssa Sutherland in Psychological Creature Horror
Uncork’d Entertainment has released the first trailer for The Room Below, a psychological creature horror film starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Alyssa Sutherland. The film will arrive on Digital and On Demand September 1.
Written and directed by Kurt Martin (Moon Rock for Monday), The Room Below was filmed in Sydney, Australia and centers on a mother struggling with the loss of her son. When a young boy unexpectedly enters her life, she begins to view his arrival as an opportunity to reclaim something she believed had been lost.
That relationship develops alongside another problem inside her home. A creature she has been keeping hidden becomes increasingly difficult to control, while a retired detective investigating the disappearance of a child begins following a trail that draws him closer to her secrets.
The newly released trailer introduces the film’s combination of grief-driven psychological horror and practical creature effects, keeping much of the nature of the threat obscured while establishing the investigation unfolding around the central characters.
Sutherland stars following her role as Ellie in Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise. Her television credits also include Vikings, while Rhys Meyers’ career includes Velvet Goldmine, The Tudors and Dracula. Bobby Gilchrist (Shapeless, The Invisible Raptor) and Gilbert Bradman (Transfusion, The Twelve) round out the principal cast.
The creature work for The Room Below comes from Australian special makeup effects studio Make-Up Effects Group. The company’s credits include George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and the Australian supernatural horror film Talk to Me.
The film also arrives on the festival circuit ahead of its digital release. The Room Below is part of the Fantastic Fest 2026 lineup, where it is scheduled to make its international premiere. The festival runs September 17-24 at Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar in Austin.
The Room Below will be available on Digital and On Demand September 1 through Uncork’d Entertainment.
