Watch the Official Trailer for Undertone, a New Sound in Psychological Horror

A familiar voice becomes something far more dangerous in the official trailer for Undertone, the latest horror feature written and directed by Ian Tuason. Slated for an exclusive theatrical release on Friday, March 13, the film positions itself at the intersection of modern media obsession and creeping supernatural dread.

Undertone follows the host of a popular paranormal podcast whose life begins to unravel after receiving a series of disturbing audio recordings from an unknown source. What initially feels like potential content quickly mutates into something invasive and predatory, as the sounds begin to bleed into her waking life. The trailer leans heavily into auditory horror, emphasizing distorted voices, ambient noise, and the psychological weight of being constantly listened to.

The film stars Nina Kiri alongside Adam DiMarco, Michèle Duquet, Keana Lyn Bastidas, and Jeff Yung. The cast grounds the film’s increasingly surreal premise in a recognizably modern setting, where podcasting, audience engagement, and digital intimacy blur the line between creator and subject.

The release of UndERTONE also arrives at a pivotal moment for Tuason, who is attached to direct the next installment in the Paranormal Activity franchise. That context makes this film feel less like a standalone experiment and more like a statement of intent. The trailer suggests a filmmaker deeply interested in how contemporary technology reshapes fear—not through spectacle, but through intrusion, repetition, and loss of control.

Rather than relying on jump scares, Undertone appears to build tension through atmosphere and implication, using sound as its primary weapon. It’s a strategy that feels increasingly relevant in an era dominated by earbuds, endless audio content, and voices that follow us everywhere.

Undertone opens exclusively in theaters on March 13. If the trailer is any indication, this is one horror release that won’t let you simply turn the volume down.
