‘Unsolved Mysteries’ Podcast Returns With New Cases and Expands to Video

One of true crime’s most enduring franchises is returning with a new slate of mysteries — and this time, viewers will be able to watch as well as listen.

Audacy has announced the return of the Unsolved Mysteries weekly podcast from the team behind the long-running television franchise and its Netflix revival. The new season expands the podcast into video for the first time, bringing original cases from the extensive Unsolved Mysteries database to YouTube alongside the traditional audio release.

Produced by Unsolved Media, Inc. in partnership with Audacy, the series is hosted by Jordan Murphy, whose career spans more than two decades across network television and film. Audacy will handle sales and distribution.

The new season launches Thursday, October 29, with episodes available on YouTube and podcast platforms. New installments will arrive every Thursday, while select Tuesdays will feature updates on cases previously covered by both the podcast and the vintage television series.

Like the television franchise that preceded it, the podcast will investigate a broad range of unresolved cases involving murders, unexplained deaths, disappearances and wanted fugitives.

The upcoming season will revisit internationally recognized mysteries including the disappearance of Amelia Earhart, the vanishing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 and the still-unsolved theft from Boston’s Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. But the series will also continue the franchise’s longstanding emphasis on lesser-known cases, including stories submitted by families and viewers hoping renewed exposure could uncover new information.

Among the cases featured this season is the 2020 murder of 40-year-old Nick Cordova, who was killed inside his heating and air conditioning business while FaceTiming with his children. Cordova’s daughter witnessed a struggle during the call before communication was lost.

Although the crime initially appeared to be a robbery, cash and other valuables were reportedly left behind. Surveillance footage captured two men fleeing in a pickup truck, while additional footage reportedly showed one of the suspected killers at a nearby AM/PM shortly after the murder. Years later, Cordova’s family is still searching for answers about who killed him and whether he was specifically targeted.

Another episode examines the death of Loraine “Lori” Lynn, a 60-year-old woman found slumped over a farm tractor with her head submerged in a pond in August 2017. Her death was initially treated as an accidental drowning, but her family questioned that conclusion and argued that the scene had been staged.

The medical examiner eventually ruled the death a homicide, but the initial handling of the case meant potentially important evidence had gone uncollected and surveillance footage had been overlooked. The episode explores the continuing effort to determine who killed Lynn and whether the person responsible was familiar with her routines and the family property.

The series will also revisit the mysterious death of 26-year-old Joey LaBute, who disappeared after leaving a Columbus, Ohio, bar on March 5, 2016. His body was discovered in a river three weeks later, but investigators determined he had not drowned.

According to the case summary, an autopsy found no water in LaBute’s lungs or stomach and no obvious injuries or unexpected substances that explained his death. Both the cause and manner of death remained undetermined.

His final communications have become another piece of the mystery. LaBute reportedly told a friend that he was “driving” despite not being in his vehicle and sent a final text containing a seemingly inexplicable sequence of letters. His family hopes someone may still be able to decipher what happened between the moment he left the bar and the discovery of his body.

Another featured case goes back to July 11, 2006, when 56-year-old Mary Cooper and her 27-year-old daughter, Susanna Stodden, left Seattle for a hike along Washington’s Pinnacle Lake Trail.

The experienced hikers were seen alive at the trailhead that morning. Hours later, strangers discovered both women dead along the trail after they had been shot in the back of the head.

The daylight double homicide triggered a major investigation but produced no identified suspect or established motive. Nearly two decades later, investigators and the women’s family continue seeking information about whether Cooper and Stodden encountered a stranger in the wilderness or were deliberately followed and targeted.

For Unsolved Mysteries co-creator and Unsolved Media President and CEO Terry Dunn Meurer, bringing the podcast to video provides another opportunity to put unresolved cases in front of an audience capable of generating new leads.

“We’re thrilled to be expanding the Unsolved Mysteries brand in this pivot to the video podcast world,” Meurer said. “There are still so many mysteries that need to be solved and we know we can reach a wide audience on YouTube and through Audacy’s distribution. And we hope our audience can help solve these mysteries, as they have for decades.”

Audacy Head of Podcasts Leah Reis-Dennis similarly pointed to the franchise’s multigenerational following as the podcast enters its next phase.

“‘Unsolved Mysteries’ has an incredibly passionate audience and a legacy that continues to resonate across generations, and we’re excited to bring the podcast into a new era with video,” Reis-Dennis said.

The move to video represents another evolution for a franchise built around one fundamental idea: sometimes putting an unsolved case in front of the right person can make a difference.

The new season of the Unsolved Mysteries podcast premieres October 29 on YouTube and podcast platforms, with new episodes arriving Thursdays and select case updates scheduled for Tuesdays.
