Watch the Insane Red Band Trailer for ‘Jeffrey Dollmer’
Serial killer horror takes an especially bizarre turn in Jeffrey Dollmer, the upcoming genre film from director Mark Savage (Purgatory Road), which has unveiled its new red band trailer.
The film takes one of America’s most notorious killers and spins his history into a supernatural killer-doll premise. In 1991, Jeffrey Dahmer discovers a doll and attempts to perform a ritual that will transfer his spirit into it. He is captured before he can complete his plans, leaving the doll locked away in police evidence for decades.
Eventually discarded, the doll finds its way back into the world. In the present day, its dormant spirit is accidentally summoned and becomes attached to a young model who bears a resemblance to its former owner. When she travels to a remote location for a photo shoot, the possessed doll follows, transforming the isolated set into a killing ground as competitors and crew members become its targets.
The red band trailer leans directly into the outrageousness of the concept, offering a blood-soaked preview of the film’s mix of supernatural horror, slasher violence and killer-doll mayhem.
Charlie Trepany (Sick Girl) leads an ensemble that includes Chey Crieger, Juliana Destefano (Shark Season), Adam Huss (Power, General Hospital), Eva Hamilton (Death Kiss), Mariah Justice, Scott Asmar, Jabarri Bush, Jane Xi, Tom Parnell (12 to Midnight) and Sean Michael Conway (Popeye the Slayer Man).
Brian Joseph Mange portrays Jeffrey Dahmer, while Final Destination creator Jeffrey Reddick makes a cameo appearance.
As strange as the movie’s premise may be, the production reportedly had a few unusual moments of its own. According to those involved with the film, the shoot was accompanied by a series of unexplained incidents ranging from mechanical problems and sudden illness to watches behaving strangely and the film’s doll seemingly appearing in places where crew members did not remember leaving it.
Producer Jeff Miller stopped short of describing the production as cursed but acknowledged that the number of unusual incidents stood out compared with his previous projects.
“I wouldn’t say the film is cursed,” Miller said, “but there were definitely some weird goings-on — moreso than most anything else I’ve been involved with, and I’ve produced fifty features.”
The screenplay was written by John Doolan (Popeye the Slayer Man, Remains) and Miller (Clowntown, Ouija House), based on a story by Miller, who also produces the film. Miller, Tom Parnell, Brandon Gibbs and Ronnie D. Lee serve as executive producers, with George J. Merino as co-producer, Dylan Matlock as consulting producer, and Tony Snegoff and Danielle Juliet Ma as associate producers.
Behind the camera, the creative team includes cinematographer Kody Newton (The Death of Snow White), production designer and doll puppeteer Joe Black, costume designer Cat Black, makeup effects artist Koji Ohmura (Dexter: Original Sin) and doll creator Eris Deo (Witness Infection).
With its deliberately provocative title, killer-doll setup and extreme red band footage, Jeffrey Dollmer is clearly positioning itself on the more outrageous end of independent horror. The newly released trailer provides the first bloody look at just how far Savage and company intend to take the concept.
