Supernatural horror gets a fresh jolt this summer with Whisper of the Witch, the new thriller from director Serik Beiseu (The Demoness) arriving on digital, Blu-ray™, and DVD (Amazon exclusive) August 19 via Well Go USA Entertainment.
Set against the eerie backdrop of the long-abandoned Merden Manor, the film begins with a group of thrill-seeking teens who break in for a night of mischief. But what starts as a typical horror setup quickly shifts gears when one of them ends up dead—and something ancient begins to stir. When detectives arrive to investigate, it’s clear this is no ordinary crime scene. One of the officers shares a dark connection to the manor and becomes obsessed with solving its mystery, as century-old curses and supernatural forces begin to close in.
The film features a cast familiar to fans of modern Russian horror, including Artur Beschastnyy (The Demoness), Maryana Spivak (Baba Yaga: Terror of the Dark Forest), Sofya Shidlovskaya (Mermaid: The Lake of the Dead), Igor Grabuzov (No Looking Back), and Sergey Safronov (Netflix’s Stranger Things), with Valeria Kot (Eva) rounding out the ensemble.
There’s a clear influence from Eastern European folk horror here, and based on the trailer, Whisper of the Witch leans into a visually rich aesthetic with plenty of classic jump scares. Elements like a cursed phonograph and blood-stained altar suggest a commitment to atmospheric world-building—and for genre fans, that’s always a plus.
Whether it reinvents the wheel or simply spins a familiar tale with creepy craftsmanship remains to be seen, but Whisper of the Witch looks to be a solid entry into the haunted manor subgenre. Let us know what you thought of the trailer and if this one’s landing on your watchlist.
Whisper of the Witch debuts on Digital and Amazon-exclusive Blu-ray™/DVD on August 19.
