Alamo Drafthouse Unveils May Lineup Featuring Meryl Streep Showcase, De Palma Retrospective, and Interactive Movie Parties
The month of May is shaping up to be a full-scale celebration of cinema at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, with a lineup that blends repertory favorites, filmmaker spotlights, and interactive theatrical experiences.
Leading the slate is “Meryl Mania: A Showcase of the Immortal Ms. Streep,” a month-long spotlight on Meryl Streep, timed with the theatrical release of The Devil Wears Prada 2. The series spans multiple eras of her career, including screenings of Mamma Mia!, The Bridges of Madison County, Adaptation, and Death Becomes Her, the latter closing out the month with a full Movie Party presentation.
Mother’s Day weekend ties directly into the programming, with themed menu items designed around iconic movie moms, adding a curated culinary layer to the experience.

Also featured is De Palma Summer, a retrospective dedicated to Brian De Palma, launching with Carrie and Mission: Impossible. The series highlights De Palma’s signature visual style—split diopters, heightened tension, and controlled chaos—on the big screen.
Beyond retrospectives, Alamo continues to lean into curated programming blocks. Terror Tuesday brings late-night horror screenings like Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II, while Weird Wednesday explores unconventional titles such as By Design, starring Juliette Lewis.
The schedule also includes Sad Girl Cinema Club, featuring emotionally driven selections like Frances Ha from Greta Gerwig, and Queer Film Theory 101, which spotlights the 1969 Japanese cult film Funeral Parade of Roses.
Returning to theaters as part of the repertory lineup is Sorry to Bother You from Boots Riley, arriving ahead of his upcoming feature I Love Boosters.
Interactive programming remains a key component of Alamo’s identity. The Movie Party series includes themed events like the Mamma Mia! sing-along, complete with audience props and participation elements, and Death Becomes Her, which leans into its camp legacy with live-hosted engagement and themed giveaways.
The month also features AGFA Mystery Voyage, a blind screening series curated by the American Genre Film Archive, offering rare and unpredictable titles for audiences willing to take a chance.
With a mix of nostalgia, curated programming, and immersive experiences, Alamo Drafthouse’s May lineup continues to position theatrical viewing as both a communal and interactive event.
