Andy Weir Returns to Sci-Fi With Audible Original Exoplanet Starring Anthony Mackie, Ariana DeBose and John Leguizamo

Following the success of The Martian and Project Hail Mary, Andy Weir is heading back into deep space with Exoplanet, a new Audible Original science fiction thriller featuring an all-star voice cast led by Anthony Mackie, Academy Award winner Ariana DeBose, and John Leguizamo.

Launching November 5 exclusively on Audible, Exoplanet is executive produced by Weir and written specifically for audio by acclaimed novelist Benjamin Percy, known for his work across novels, comics, and scripted audio dramas.

The story begins when the starship Wild Blue Yonder is ripped apart by a quantum anomaly, scattering its surviving crew across different eras of the same hostile alien world.

Separated not by distance, but by centuries, each survivor faces a unique version of the planet.

Chief Engineer Jeff Shaw (Anthony Mackie) awakens in the planet’s present, determined to find a way back to his daughter on Earth while relying on the guidance of his virtual assistant, voiced by Ray Porter.

First Officer Becca Bang (Ariana DeBose) finds herself stranded in the planet’s distant past, struggling to survive an unforgiving alien landscape.

Meanwhile, Science Officer Logan Bowers (John Leguizamo) awakens in a future where intelligent machines have taken control of the world.

As the crew slowly discovers, the anomaly that scattered them across time was anything but accidental.

An ancient alien intelligence capable of feeding on human technology has been waiting across multiple timelines, forcing the isolated survivors to somehow communicate across centuries before humanity’s future is erased.

Weir said the story immediately captured the kind of scientific puzzle he enjoys exploring.

“I’m obsessed with problems, the kind where one person and a lot of math are all that stand between survival and disaster.”

He also praised Benjamin Percy’s approach to the story, saying the concept of people attempting to save one another while separated by centuries created a narrative uniquely suited for audio.

According to Weir, Anthony Mackie, Ariana DeBose, and John Leguizamo bring emotional weight to the enormous distances separating their characters.

The production also features sound design from Lucasfilm’s Skywalker Sound alongside an original score by composer Rob Cairns, further emphasizing Audible’s cinematic approach to the project.

Supporting cast members include Cherry Jones, Sufe Bradshaw, Charlie Plummer, Ray Porter, and Aida Osman.

For Audible, Exoplanet continues a successful partnership with Weir. Audiobook editions of his novels have sold more than seven million copies through the platform, while The Martian became a major film directed by Ridley Scott, and Project Hail Mary recently made the leap to the big screen with Ryan Gosling in the lead role.

Rather than adapting another existing novel, Exoplanet was conceived specifically as an audio experience, combining large-scale science fiction, time-spanning suspense, and immersive sound design into an original thriller built for listeners.
