‘Mum, I’m Alien Pregnant’ Sets October U.S. Digital Release

New Zealand body horror comedy Mum, I’m Alien Pregnant is heading to U.S. audiences this month, with the feature directorial debut from filmmaking duo THUNDERLIPS set for a digital and on-demand release Oct. 27.
The U.S. release follows the film’s festival run, which included its world premiere in the Midnight section of the 2026 Sundance Film Festival and a screening at SXSW, where HMU previously caught the film.
Hannah Lynch stars as Mary, a millennial whose already complicated life takes an unexpected turn when she discovers she is pregnant with an alien.
Faced with doctors who are skeptical of her condition, an unhelpful father of the child and a mother with few boundaries, Mary attempts to understand what is happening to her body while figuring out how to survive the increasingly unusual pregnancy.
Lynch is joined by Yvette Parsons (What We Do in the Shadows), Arlo Green (Shortland Street) and Jackie van Beek, co-creator of the Australian adaptation of The Office.
Mum, I’m Alien Pregnant was written and directed by THUNDERLIPS, the New Zealand filmmaking partnership making its feature debut with the project. The film expands upon the duo’s 2024 short Help, I’m Alien Pregnant, with Lynch returning to the role she originated in the earlier production.
The newly released U.S. trailer introduces Mary and the circumstances surrounding her pregnancy while previewing the film’s combination of body horror and comedy. The footage moves between medical examinations, family complications and the physical consequences of Mary’s extraterrestrial condition.
The feature’s expansion from the original short also gives THUNDERLIPS a larger framework for Mary’s story, taking the central alien-pregnancy premise and placing it alongside conflicts involving her family, relationships and interactions with the medical system.
Following its Sundance debut, the film has continued through the festival circuit and, according to promotional materials for the U.S. release, currently holds a 94% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. That figure is subject to change as additional reviews are added.
For HMU, the digital arrival also provides a wider release for a title we previously encountered on the festival circuit at SXSW.
Mum, I’m Alien Pregnant, written and directed by THUNDERLIPS and starring Hannah Lynch, Yvette Parsons, Arlo Green and Jackie van Beek, will be released in the United States on digital and on-demand platforms Oct. 27.
