Australian Supernatural Horror ‘Haunted’ Unearths a Coastal Town’s Buried Past
Black Mandala has taken on international representation for Haunted, an Australian supernatural horror film from directors Myles McEwen and Ripley Stevens.
Set in the fictional coastal town of One Season, the film connects a series of disappearances to a mysterious incident that occurred years earlier during a violent storm.
The story begins on Oct. 19, 2003, when a storm strikes the remote Australian community. An unexplained incident involving a group of teenagers on the beach takes place that night, leaving consequences that continue to affect the town.
Four years later, teenagers begin disappearing.
At the center of the story is Sol, a reclusive man dealing with fragmented memories and disturbing visions. After learning that his home faces demolition, Sol is forced from the isolation he has built around himself.
His circumstances become increasingly complicated when he begins experiencing what appears to be a supernatural presence. As the disappearances continue, Sol discovers a possible connection between the missing teenagers, his own experiences and the events that occurred on the beach four years earlier.
The investigation leads him toward the history of One Season and the possibility that whatever happened during the 2003 storm was never fully resolved.
McEwen and Stevens previously collaborated on Nightfall. McEwen also wrote the screenplay for Haunted.
The cast includes David Daradan, Joseph Baronio, Nathaniel Kelly, Jack Rawlinson and Jordan Bender.
According to Black Mandala, the film combines psychological and supernatural horror, using its isolated Australian coastal setting as the backdrop for a story involving apparitions, disappearances and buried secrets. Promotional materials position the film as a slow-burn supernatural mystery in which the distinction between Sol’s memories, reality and unexplained events becomes increasingly uncertain.
The project joins Black Mandala’s international genre slate, with the company representing Haunted for worldwide sales.
Haunted is directed by Myles McEwen and Ripley Stevens from a screenplay by McEwen. Additional release and distribution details have not yet been announced.
