Attached Review: Kendra Monet and Demetrius Sadler Deliver a Stylish Psychological Short

Genyne Deal appears tense and emotional in a scene from psychological horror short Attached.
Genyne Deal stars as a struggling actress confronting emotional and supernatural unrest in Attached.

Independent horror continues to thrive in the short film space, and Attached from filmmakers Kendra Monet and Demetrius Sadler adds another intriguing voice to the conversation. Written and directed by Monet and Sadler, the psychological horror short blends emotional trauma, ambition, and fractured identity into a compact but layered experience that leaves audiences questioning what is real and what is lingering beneath the surface.

Starring Genyne Deal as aspiring actress Draya, Attached follows a young woman in New York City trying to survive the grind of chasing creative success while balancing complicated relationships, financial stress, and emotional baggage that refuses to stay buried. As Draya attempts to push forward in both her career and personal life, unsettling experiences begin to suggest that her past may be haunting her in more ways than one.

Running under twenty minutes, the short moves through multiple timelines and emotional states while maintaining a grounded focus on Draya’s internal unraveling. Genyne Deal gives a committed performance that keeps the emotional weight centered throughout the film, while Isaiah Joseph, Essence Sommers as Nya, and Milani Jade as Megan all help reinforce the pressure surrounding Draya’s increasingly unstable reality.

What stands out most about Attached is its presentation. Monet and Sadler lean into psychological tension rather than relying on traditional horror setups, allowing atmosphere and uncertainty to drive the experience. The short uses misdirection effectively and creates enough intrigue to make viewers continue piecing things together after the credits roll. There is also a strong sense that this story could easily expand into something larger. The world and characters feel developed enough to support a longer narrative or episodic continuation.

While some of the narrative ambiguity may leave certain viewers searching for clearer answers, the short succeeds in creating a compelling emotional and psychological spiral that feels personal and unsettling.

Attached earns a solid 3 out of 5 stars from Horror Movies Uncut. With strong performances, stylish execution, and clear potential for expansion, this is a promising project from Kendra Monet and Demetrius Sadler. The short is set to screen at the Brooklyn Film Festival on June 5.
