“Get ready for ’80s nostalgia with a horror twist in The Blue Diamond—a must-see for retro ski movie fans!”

It’s been a while since we’ve reviewed a horror short, but when you’re making the festival rounds, a few gems—or should we say diamonds—are bound to stand out. Filmmaker Sam Fox introduces us to her world of Foxy Films with the horror-sci-fi short The Blue Diamond. The film follows Alison (Desiree Staples) as she hosts a funeral reception for her mother, the former leader of an ’80s ski cult (Barbara Crampton). After some strange interactions with the cult members, Alison soon discovers that not everything is as it seems—or is it?

The Blue Diamond is a love letter to the sexy, retrowave-driven ski movies of the past, but with a horror twist.

We thoroughly enjoyed the film’s visual style and approach. Crampton, Staples, and the rest of the cast work together seamlessly, pulling viewers into a late-night Cinemax-esque world of sleazy ski elitists, big ’80s hair, and vibrant colors. The outfits and aesthetics are a perfect homage to films like Ski School and Hot Dog: The Movie, making The Blue Diamond feel like a piece of that era. It’s a sexy, fun, and obscure treat, and we’re excited to hear that a full-length version is in the works—there’s clearly so much more to explore with these characters.

For now, fans of ’80s and ’90s nostalgia will love The Blue Diamond. Hats off to Sam Fox for creating something engaging and entertaining from start to finish. We can’t wait to see what’s next from the Blue Diamond universe.
