Well Go USA Brings Yuen Woo-ping’s Epic Martial Arts Spectacle Blades of the Guardians to North America
Well Go USA Entertainment is doubling down on large-scale martial arts cinema.
The genre-focused distributor has acquired North American rights to Blades of the Guardians, the latest historical action epic directed by legendary filmmaker and fight choreographer Yuen Woo-ping. The film is set for a North American theatrical release on February 17, timed to coincide with the Chinese New Year.
Produced by Mandarin Motion Pictures and Peace Film Production, Blades of the Guardians adapts the popular comic by Xianzhe Xu and brings together an ensemble that reads like a hall-of-fame roster for martial arts fans. The cast includes Wu Jing, who also serves as producer, Jet Li, Nicholas Tse, along with rising stars Yosh Yu, JUN (Wen Junhui) of SEVENTEEN, and Winwin of NCT.
Set during China’s Sui Dynasty under the tyrannical rule of Emperor Yang Guang, the film follows Biao Ren, a hardened mercenary escorting a young charge across the brutal deserts of the Western Regions. What begins as a routine mission quickly spirals into a deadly web of political conspiracy, betrayal, and relentless combat, forcing Biao Ren to confront forces far larger than himself.
For Well Go USA, the acquisition represents a natural extension of the company’s long-standing commitment to action cinema rooted in traditional martial arts. President and CEO Doris Pfardrescher praised the film as a full-throttle celebration of the genre, highlighting Yuen Woo-ping’s direction and the sheer weight of talent assembled on screen.
With Yuen Woo-ping behind the camera—an architect of modern martial arts choreography whose influence spans decades—and icons like Wu Jing and Jet Li sharing the screen, Blades of the Guardians positions itself as both a throwback to classic wuxia spectacle and a modern, high-intensity action event.
For fans of sweeping historical epics, bone-crunching fight choreography, and the enduring legacy of martial arts cinema, Blades of the Guardians looks primed to be one of early 2026’s must-see imports when it hits North American theaters this February.
