BloodStream Launches Vertical Horror Series Nightmarish on June 28

BloodStream is taking the booming world of vertical video into horror territory.

The horror, thriller, and sci-fi streaming platform has announced the launch of Nightmarish, its first serialized vertical horror series, premiering Sunday, June 28.

Designed specifically for mobile viewing, Nightmarish is built entirely in a 9:16 aspect ratio and created to be binged in sequence from beginning to end. Unlike traditional television shows reformatted for phones, the series was conceived and shot vertically from its very first frame.

The launch marks BloodStream's first major step into serialized vertical storytelling.

The format has exploded in popularity over the last several years thanks to platforms like ReelShort and DramaBox, helping create an estimated $8 billion global micro-drama industry in 2025. Until now, much of that growth has been driven by romance stories, leaving horror as a largely untapped genre.

BloodStream is looking to change that.

Nightmarish is a psychological horror anthology made up of self-contained stories designed to maximize suspense, dread, and paranoia within a mobile-first viewing experience.

Featured episodes include Sleepyhead, which follows a young woman who becomes the victim of a curse after participating in a viral internet trend, and The Mare, where a woman attempting to start over discovers her nightmares are leaving physical wounds on her body.

Rather than relying on large action sequences or traditional chase scenes, the series focuses on psychological tension and quick, impactful scares that work within the constraints of the phone screen.

"The micro-drama wave proved audiences will watch a full story one vertical episode at a time. It just hasn't really scared them yet," said Shaked Berenson, CEO of Studio Dome, BloodStream's parent company.

"We already stream more than a thousand vertical videos, so this isn't us chasing a format. Nightmarish is the first show we've built to be watched in sequence, and a horror-native platform is exactly where serialized vertical horror should live."

The project was created by Atlanta-based studio Nightmarish, founded in 2024 by filmmakers Madison Hoover and Jaime Lucero Jr.

The pair developed the concept following their short film The Mare and assembled a cast of emerging Atlanta talent that includes Madison Hoover, Lauren Lox, Jason Williams, Emily Topper, and Rachel Faulkner.

"Vertical horror only works when every frame is built for the phone in your hand. No wasted seconds, the scare landing before you can look away," said Hoover.

Lucero added that every episode is designed as a complete story with the potential to expand into larger projects in the future.

The launch also continues BloodStream's expansion as a destination for genre fans. The platform currently features festival selections from FrightFest, Fantasia, and Screamfest, alongside a 24/7 FAST channel, a growing shorts library, and original programming.

BloodStream is also leaning into community-driven features that many streaming platforms have moved away from, including commentary tracks, filmmaker interviews, and behind-the-scenes content.

For horror fans, Nightmarish could signal the beginning of a new lane in genre storytelling.

The vertical video era has already changed how audiences consume content. BloodStream is betting horror is the next evolution.

Nightmarish premieres exclusively on BloodStream on Sunday, June 28.
