CFF2022' "Bitch Ass" - movie review

Ok so it's been a while since we have seen any black horror cinema receive a prestigious fan favorite award. So I was very excited to see the flick from actor and filmmaker Bill Posley, BITCH ASS. Like many of the features discussed at the start of the film by the iconic Tony Todd, BITCH ASS held no punches in being a true urban effort. This film is from the hood, by the hood and for the hood. No problems on my end as I was raised on these movies. I will say Master P's I GOT THE HOOK and Dre and Snoops CARWASH redux also can serve as reference points for what we see in BITCH ASS. Hilarious and unapologetic Posley looks to return black horror cinema to a time that's been forgotten. When bootleg films, CDs and VHS tapes were found in every parking lot.

Strap in for a good time with BITCH ASS but please keep your "woke" asses away from a full dissection of this film. The story smells like an urban legend bought to life. It follows a group looking to be initiated into a gang ran by Sheaun McKinney (THE NEIGHBORHOOD). The task is to break in and steal from an elderly lady that passed away not too long ago. What they don't know is her mammoth of a grandson Tunde Laleye still lives there and plans on enacting revenge for his horrible past. His nickname is BITCH ASS, and he wants everyone to suffer. When they arrive in the house they unknowingly participate in a game to the death. Crude language and over the top theatrics make this an engaging late night flick where the sound effects are just as ridiculous as the premise of the film. That being said it's very watchable as the characters all fall into the various hood stereotypes we love to hate. If Marlon Wayans would have made a cameo in this film I would have lost it. Not since his HAUNTED HOUSE flicks have we seen a black cast look as though they are having tons of fun like in BITCH ASS. I would love to have this film on VHS as it would have fit right in with my childhood favorites.

Yes there will be tons of horror fans that will instantly pass over BITCH ASS and that's ok because it's not for them. BITCH ASS is for the streets and those who enjoy straight forward mayhem wrapped up in probably one of the most f**ed up SAW renditions ever created. I couldn't help but smile and laugh while watching this insane movie and at the end of the day isn't that what we go to films for?

3/5
