Grab your Mogwai and hide the midnight snacks — Warner Bros. is officially bringing the Gremlins back to theaters. As first reported by Deadline, Gremlins 3 has officially joined Warner Bros.’ 2027 slate, marking the first live-action entry in nearly three decades. The film is set to hit theaters on November 19, 2027, with Chris Columbus returning to direct and Steven Spielberg on board as executive producer under his Amblin Entertainment banner.
The news broke during Warner Bros. Discovery’s third-quarter earnings call, with CEO David Zaslav confirming the long-rumored project is officially underway. Columbus, who directed the original 1984 Gremlins — a film that spawned a pop culture frenzy, countless toys, and one of the most quoted holiday horrors ever made — will also produce the new sequel.
Spielberg’s return cements Gremlins 3 as a major event for fans of both the original and its eccentric 1990 follow-up, Gremlins 2: The New Batch. While the latter was a box office disappointment upon release, it’s since earned cult-classic status for its self-aware chaos and Looney Tunes-inspired meta humor.
The original Gremlins grossed $165 million worldwide, while its sequel took in $41 million, but both films left an indelible mark on horror-comedy cinema. Beyond the movies, the Gremlins legacy has continued to thrive through collectibles, comic books, and the recent animated prequel series Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai on HBO Max, proving there’s still plenty of love for the mischievous creatures.
While plot details for Gremlins 3 remain under wraps, the creative reunion of Columbus and Spielberg — the team that defined an era of Amblin-style fantasy filmmaking — is enough to make this one of the most anticipated genre revivals in years.
Expect chaos. Expect nostalgia. And definitely, don’t feed them after midnight.
