Cineverse Expands Its Horror Slate with Cosmic Nightmare The Daemon on SCREAMBOX
Cineverse isn’t slowing down—and if anything, they’re getting more precise with where they’re aiming next.
Fresh off the continued momentum of the Terrifier franchise, Cineverse, alongside Bloody Disgusting, has officially acquired U.S. rights to The Daemon, a psychological cosmic horror feature that’s set to premiere March 24 exclusively on SCREAMBOX.
And if you’ve been paying attention, this move makes perfect sense.
Cineverse has been building a very specific lane—data-driven, direct-to-fan horror releases that don’t just chase trends, but understand exactly who they’re speaking to. The Daemon fits right into that evolution, leaning into atmospheric, elevated horror while still delivering the kind of unsettling experience genre fans look for.
Directed by Matt Devino and David Yohe, the film marks the duo’s feature debut and steps directly into Lovecraftian territory. But instead of going big immediately, The Daemon starts small—and then lets everything unravel from there.
The story centers on Jess, played by Adriana Isabel, a therapist who retreats to a remote lake house to help a troubled young man. What begins as a controlled environment quickly spirals into something far more unstable, as reality itself starts to break down under the weight of a mysterious presence.
This is the kind of setup that thrives on tension over spectacle—at least at first.
Because once the descent begins, it doesn’t stop.
Premiering at FrightFest, The Daemon has already positioned itself as a film that understands the slow-burn mechanics of cosmic horror. It’s less about immediate shock and more about that creeping realization that something is fundamentally wrong—and getting worse.
And with creature effects handled by Academy Award® winner Joel Harlow, there’s a clear commitment to making sure that when the film does reveal itself, it lands.
The acquisition itself, negotiated by Joseph Scotti with Cineverse’s VP of Acquisitions Dan Fisher, signals another calculated move for the company as it continues to expand beyond splatter-heavy hits into more atmospheric territory.
It’s a smart balance.
On one side, you’ve got the crowd-pleasing chaos of franchises like Terrifier. On the other, films like The Daemon that tap into something quieter, more psychological, and ultimately more unsettling.
And with Tony Wash positioning SCREAMBOX as a destination for horror fans looking for that range, the platform continues to carve out its own identity in the genre space.
The Daemon doesn’t look like it’s trying to overwhelm you.
It looks like it’s trying to pull you in.
And once it does, there’s a good chance it won’t let go.
Streaming March 24, exclusively on SCREAMBOX.
