‘Never After Dark’ Trailer Sets September 25 Theatrical Release for Award-Winning Supernatural Horror
Never After Dark, the supernatural horror film from writer-director Dave Boyle, has set a September 25 theatrical release, with the official trailer and poster offering a new look at the festival award winner ahead of its arrival in theaters.
The film stars Moeka Hoshi (Shōgun) as Airi, a wandering medium who has dedicated her life to helping restless spirits leave the world of the living. Her latest assignment brings her to an isolated country house, where she encounters an apparition whose abilities challenge what she understands about the supernatural.
As Airi investigates the history surrounding the property, the case begins to reveal circumstances extending beyond the spirit she was originally summoned to confront, placing her against dangers from both inside and outside the supernatural world.
Hoshi leads a Japanese ensemble that includes Kento Kaku (House of Ninjas), Kurumi Inagaki (House of Ninjas), Mutsuo Yoshioka (Chime), Bokuzo Masana (Tokyo Vice) and Tae Kimura (All Around Us).
The new trailer emphasizes the film’s isolated setting and supernatural imagery while keeping much of the larger mystery surrounding Airi’s investigation concealed. The footage also provides a closer look at Hoshi’s central performance and Boyle’s approach to the film’s escalating atmosphere.

Never After Dark arrives in theaters following a successful festival run. The film won the Midnighter Audience Award at SXSW and received the Grand Jury Prize for Feature Film at the Overlook Film Festival.
Boyle both wrote and directed the feature. The filmmaker previously worked extensively within Japanese-set storytelling, and Never After Dark places its supernatural narrative around a protagonist whose familiarity with the spirit world is challenged by a case that moves beyond her previous experiences.
For Horror Movies Uncut, the film has remained one of the year’s anticipated genre releases following its festival reception, and the newly released trailer provides the first substantial look at what audiences can expect when it reaches theaters.
Never After Dark opens in theaters September 25.
