DIRTY BOY Brings Cult Horror to UK Cinemas This September

Mystic Dream Story Studio and Stone Hill, in association with Saint Halo Productions, have announced that their psychological cult thriller DIRTY BOY will hit select UK cinemas on 10th September before heading to digital platforms on 15th October.

The film arrives fresh from its festival run, where it turned heads at Raindance Film Festival, earning nominations for Best UK Feature, Best Director (Doug Rao), Best UK Cinematography, and Best Performance in a UK Feature (Graham McTavish).

A Cult Thriller With Teeth

Dirty Boy marks the feature debut of Doug Rao as writer-producer-director. Early reactions call it daring and warped—Dread Central said it “laughs in the face of horror,” while Cut To The Take called it “trippy, acid, hella fun in a twisted way.”

At the center is Isaac, a reclusive schizophrenic raised in an oppressive cult. When a string of ritualistic murders shakes the community, Isaac learns he’s being framed by the cult leaders themselves. To clear his name, he must stop their next killing and take down the sect from within.

Cast & Crew Powerhouse

The cast brings an impressive weight:

  • Graham McTavish (The Witcher, Outlander, The Hobbit)

  • Stan Steinbichler (Zero Chill, Vienna Blood)

  • Susie Porter (Wentworth Prison, Cargo)

  • Honor Gillies (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes)

Behind the scenes, producers include Giles Alderson, Sarah Ann Grill, and Marek Lichtenberg, who also stars in the film.

UK Screenings & Events

Audiences will also get the chance to hear from the team directly, with cast and crew Q&As lined up:

  • London Gala – Genesis Cinema, 7th Sept

  • Edinburgh Scotsman Picturehouse, 10th Sept (with Graham McTavish)

  • Glasgow Film Theatre, 11th Sept (with Graham McTavish)

  • Perth Playhouse, 12th Sept (with Graham McTavish)

  • All Is Joy, Soho, 29th Sept (Cast & Crew Q&A + Networking)

Director’s Statement

Doug Rao describes the project as born from “a place of intense darkness,” with the goal of finding both humor and humanity within it.

“Isaac in Dirty Boy has created an alter to process forgotten traumas – but which one is really him? We wanted to explore the fluidity of identity, the dangers of doctrine, and how beauty and villainy can exist within the same faith.”

Shot in the stunning Ausseerland/Saltzkammergut region of Austria—famously used in The Sound of Music and Spectre—the film pairs a paradisiacal backdrop with a deeply sinister fable.

DIRTY BOY arrives in UK cinemas from 10th September and digital platforms from 15th October.
