Erin Doherty and James McAvoy Team for Supernatural Drama ‘Faith’
Per Deadline, Golden Globe and Emmy winner Erin Doherty and BAFTA winner James McAvoy are set to star in Faith, a supernatural drama from BAFTA- and BIFA-winning writer-director Paul Andrew Williams (London to Brighton, Bull).
Currently in production and shooting in the U.K., Faith marks Williams’ seventh feature and follows his critically acclaimed drama Dragonfly. The film is being introduced to buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin, with international sales handled by Bankside Films and Logical Pictures.
Faith centers on Gina (Doherty), a devoted single mother whose life takes an unexpected turn when she meets Michael (McAvoy), a quietly enigmatic stranger who appears to offer care, stability, and understanding. As their connection deepens, questions begin to surface about Michael’s true intentions — and ultimately, his true nature. When his extraordinary identity is revealed, Gina is forced to confront grief, belief, and the possibility of finding beauty and meaning in life again, even after profound loss.
Joining Doherty and McAvoy is BAFTA and BIFA nominee Liv Hill (Jellyfish, The Little Stranger), alongside Smylie Bradwell (Hamnet, The Hunger Games franchise).
The film is produced by Dominic Tighe of Giant Productions (Dragonfly, Bull) and Danny Page of Homefront Productions and Blazing Griffin (California Schemin’). Financing comes from Blazing Griffin, Logical, and Homefront Productions.
For Doherty, Faith represents her first major leading role in a feature film following the breakout success of Netflix’s Adolescence, which continues to rack up awards attention. She is also currently appearing in Disney+’s A Thousand Blows. For McAvoy, the project marks a reunion with Blazing Griffin, the company behind his directorial debut California Schemin’, which premiered at TIFF last year.
“Faith is a deeply personal story to me,” Williams said. “It’s about strength and hope, set in a reality we recognize, yet shadowed by something otherworldly that feels as though it’s guiding us through life. Working with Erin Doherty and James McAvoy has been a gift — their commitment elevates every moment.”
Stephen Kelliher of Bankside Films and Andrei Kamarowsky of Logical echoed that sentiment, calling Faith “a gripping, emotionally rich story that subverts expectations in thrilling and surprising ways.”
With a powerhouse cast and a filmmaker known for blending raw human drama with unsettling genre elements, Faith is shaping up to be one of the more intriguing supernatural dramas headed into the European market this year.
