A disturbing mystery surrounding a missing child is at the center of the new teaser for Imposters, the sci-fi thriller debut from writer and director Caleb Phillips.
The film will world premiere at the 2026 SXSW Film Festival, screening Sunday, March 15 at 9:00 p.m. at Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar.
Leading the cast is Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day), alongside Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll) and Yul Vazquez (Severance). The ensemble also includes Bates Wilder, Luisina Quarleri, Thomas Parobek, Ian Lyons, Taylor Karin, Lee Bennett, and Declan Bennett.
At the heart of Imposters is a chilling premise: after a couple’s baby boy is taken, the devastated mother discovers a mysterious method that allows her to bring him back. But when she returns with the child, her husband begins to suspect something deeply unsettling—that the baby she brought home may not actually be their son.
While the concept itself taps into familiar themes of parental desperation and identity horror, the teaser leans heavily into mood and atmosphere rather than explanation. Visceral imagery, fragmented moments of tension, and haunting glimpses of the family’s unraveling reality suggest a film more interested in psychological dread than straightforward sci-fi mechanics.
The result is a teaser that feels far more mysterious—and far more intriguing—than the simple logline might initially suggest.
Produced by Thomas Bond, Sara Seligman, and Joe Bandelli, Imposters marks Phillips’ feature-length debut, signaling the arrival of a filmmaker willing to explore emotionally complex genre storytelling.
Early footage hints at a story that may blur the line between science fiction, psychological thriller, and domestic horror, placing audiences inside a marriage slowly collapsing under suspicion and grief.
With its SXSW world premiere just around the corner, Imposters is shaping up to be one of the festival’s more intriguing genre discoveries.
Expect to hear more about Imposters as the film makes its debut in Austin—and as audiences get their first full look at Phillips’ unsettling vision.
