Lionsgate Unleashes First Trailer for ‘KARŌSHI,’ Action Thriller Produced by Chad Stahelski

Lionsgate Unveils Explosive First Trailer for ‘KARŌSHI,’ New Action Thriller Produced by ‘JOHN WICK’ Director Chad Stahelski
Lionsgate has released the official trailer, poster and new images for KARŌSHI, an upcoming action thriller written and directed by Takashi Doscher and produced by JOHN WICK filmmaker Chad Stahelski. Set in a near-future Manhattan, the film stars Teo Yoo, Isabel May, Takehiro Hira, Bill Camp, Show Kasamatsu, Giancarlo Esposito and Cynthia Erivo.
The newly released trailer introduces a corporate-controlled world where professional loyalty and cultural tradition have transformed everyday life, establishing the setting for a violent confrontation within one of the city's most powerful companies.
KARŌSHI follows a mysterious outsider who infiltrates a powerful corporation following the death of an employee. As he investigates the circumstances surrounding the incident, he uncovers a violent system operating beneath the company's carefully maintained public image.
The film's premise draws on themes of corporate exploitation, institutional control and the consequences of unquestioned loyalty, placing them within a futuristic action-thriller narrative.
The title references the Japanese term karōshi, commonly used to describe death resulting from overwork, connecting the film's corporate setting to broader concerns surrounding workplace culture and its consequences.
Teo Yoo, whose performance in the acclaimed romantic drama PAST LIVES earned international recognition, leads the ensemble. He is joined by Isabel May, who appears in SCREAM 7, and Takehiro Hira, known for his work in the FX historical drama SHŌGUN.
The supporting cast includes Bill Camp (PRESUMED INNOCENT), Show Kasamatsu (TOKYO VICE), Giancarlo Esposito (BREAKING BAD) and Cynthia Erivo (WICKED).
KARŌSHI is written and directed by Doscher, whose previous filmmaking credits include the science-fiction drama ONLY and the sports documentary A FIGHTING CHANCE.
The project is produced by Stahelski alongside Jason Spitz, Alex Young and Nathan Kahane.
Stahelski is best known for directing the JOHN WICK franchise, which helped establish a distinctive approach to contemporary action filmmaking through elaborate fight choreography, practical stunt work and carefully staged combat sequences.
His involvement as a producer connects KARŌSHI to the creative team behind one of Lionsgate's most successful modern action franchises, although Doscher serves as the film's director.
The combination of a near-future setting, corporate conspiracy and action-driven storytelling positions KARŌSHI within the science-fiction thriller genre, with its central mystery unfolding inside an institution built around secrecy and rigid organizational control.
An exact theatrical release date has not been provided in the announcement.
KARŌSHI is expected to arrive in 2027, with Lionsgate's newly released trailer offering audiences their first look at Doscher's corporate action thriller.
