NEON has released the official teaser for HOKUM, the latest feature from filmmaker Damian McCarthy, following last year’s breakout Oddity. The film stars Adam Scott and signals McCarthy’s return to folklore-soaked, slow-burn horror rooted in atmosphere and psychological unease.

The teaser offers a restrained but unsettling glimpse into McCarthy’s world. Fleeting images of dense woodland, distorted faces, bug-eyed figures, and shadow-drenched interiors suggest an ancient presence lurking just beneath the surface. Rather than explaining itself, the teaser relies on mood and implication, reinforcing McCarthy’s preference for dread that creeps in and refuses to let go.

In HOKUM, Scott plays Oham Bom, a reclusive novelist who retreats to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes. While there, he becomes increasingly consumed by staff stories of an ancient witch said to haunt the inn’s honeymoon suite. As disturbing visions mount and a sudden disappearance rattles the property, Oham is drawn into a confrontation that blurs folklore, grief, and the darkest corners of his own past.

Early teaser materials surfaced weeks ago, but this new footage marks the clearest indication yet of McCarthy’s next chapter—and it looks firmly in line with the quiet, unnerving approach that made Oddity one of HMU’s standout films of last year.

The official teaser for HOKUM is now online. Watch it and let us know what you think as we continue tracking the film’s rollout.
