Long Island natives Pete Davidson and James DeMonaco (The Purge) are teaming up for a terrifying love letter to ’70s horror with The Home—and based on the trailer, this is not your typical “comic-guy-goes-creepy” experiment. This is full-on psychological unease, boiled to a bloody, brain-burning finish.
DeMonaco, the Staten Island mastermind behind The Purge, returns to horror’s grimiest roots: isolation, suspicion, and the slow-burn dread of something evil hiding just down the hall. Davidson plays Max, a rebellious 20-something sentenced to community service inside a bleak, eerie retirement home. But the fourth floor? Off limits. No one talks about it, and the residents seem more haunted than frail. As Max uncovers the twisted truth, The Home swerves into full-blown nightmare territory—with blood, secrets, and a finale that promises to leave audiences screaming and applauding.
“I aimed to capture the spine-chilling eeriness of 70’s horror, where suspense simmers and ultimately erupts into glorious chaos,” says DeMonaco. “Pete unveils a darker, dramatic side as his character navigates a bizarre group of residents. Cover your eyes, folks.”
Davidson may have dipped his toes into horror with Bodies Bodies Bodies, but The Home goes deeper—making him less punchline, more punch-you-in-the-throat. This is dread with depth. Weird, stylish, and packed with off-kilter tension, this could be a new cult favorite in the making.
The Home opens in theaters July 25 via Lionsgate. Watch the trailer now and stay tuned to HMU for more coverage on one of this summer’s most surprising horror plays.
