POOLS Is the Late-Summer Coming-of-Age Chaotic Comedy You Didn’t Know You Needed
Odessa A’zion stars in this dramedy of grief, rebellion, and backyard pool escapism
If you’re looking for one last dive into summer mischief before the fall semester kicks in, POOLS might be your ticket. Directed by Sam Hayes and brought to us by Utopia, POOLS is part coming-of-age comedy, part grief-fueled chaos ride—and all late-night pool hopping.
Odessa A’zion leads the charge as Kennedy, a rebellious college student on the brink of expulsion. Given 24 hours to get her act together, she does what any emotionally spiraling co-ed would do: grabs her crew and breaks into every upscale backyard pool in her college town. What starts as pure defiance quickly spirals into something deeper, as Kennedy confronts her fractured identity, grief over her father’s death, and the pressure of becoming someone she’s not even sure she wants to be.
Joining A’zion are Mason Gooding, Ariel Winter, and Tyler Alvarez in a film that blends wild Gen Z energy with surprising emotional depth. It’s messy, heartfelt, and beautifully unhinged.
🗓️ Release dates:
Chicago – August 22 at the Music Box Theatre
New York & Los Angeles – August 29 at Quad Cinema and NuArt
Nationwide Expansion – September 5
POOLS looks to make a splash with audiences craving that perfect late-summer dramedy—equal parts party and personal reckoning.
