BRING HER BACK Drops Brutal New Trailer: “It Pushes Every Boundary”

In theaters May 30th — full review coming later tonight from HMU

The Philippou brothers are back—and they’re not here to play nice. With the release of the second trailer for Bring Her Back, the Talk to Me duo Danny and Michael Philippou have made it clear: this one’s going to hurt.

The new look at the A24-backed possession horror is raw, intense, and unflinchingly brutal. Gone is the quiet dread of their breakout debut. In its place is a shrieking, visceral fever dream that blends trauma, grief, and supernatural chaos into a potent, nerve-shredding cocktail.

At the center of it all? Sally Hawkins. The two-time Oscar nominee (The Shape of Water, Blue Jasmine) delivers what already looks like a soul-scouring, awards-worthy performance as a grieving foster mother whose tragic past collides with a new possession that might be more personal than anyone can imagine. Critics have been whispering it since the film’s first look: Hawkins goes places no genre actor has dared in years.

Joining her is Billy Barratt, Sora Wong, and Jonah Wren Phillips—all anchoring a twisted narrative that unfolds like Hereditary on bath salts. The setup? A foster child. A ritual. A family secret buried in blood. And something clawing its way back from the other side.

The latest trailer doesn’t hold back. From flickering candles to full-blown carnage, the imagery hits hard, and the sound design alone is a panic attack waiting to happen. Fans of Talk to Me’s emotionally grounded horror will find similar DNA here, but the Philippous have clearly “dialed it up to 11,” leaning into more extreme horror elements and a deeply personal script that punches below the belt.

A24 continues its streak of emotionally anchored nightmare fuel, and Bring Her Back may be its most daring offering yet. If the trailer is any indication, this film will challenge, unsettle, and likely devastate audiences in equal measure.

We’ll have our full review up later this evening, but in the meantime—brace yourselves. Bring Her Back hits theaters May 30.

And from what we’ve seen so far, you’re not ready.

Sally Hawkins' new film, Bring Her Back, looks intense! This trailer promises a raw, brutal horror experience. The Philippou brothers are definitely pushing boundaries, moving beyond the quiet dread of Talk to Me. It reminds me of the high-stakes tension in Snow Rider 3D, where one wrong move leads to a chilling wipeout. If you enjoy nerve-shredding experiences both on and off-screen, this movie might be for you! A24's new film hits theaters May 30th.
