‘Scary Movie’ Drops Final Trailer Ahead of June 5 Theatrical Release

Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Shawn Wayans, and Marlon Wayans reunite in Scary Movie
The Core Four return as the Wayans-led horror parody franchise takes aim at modern horror trends.

‘Scary Movie’ Drops Final Trailer Ahead of This Friday’s Theatrical Release

Twenty-six years after the original Scary Movie helped redefine horror parody for a generation, the franchise is returning to theaters this week with the Wayans family back at the center of the chaos.

Today, Paramount Pictures released the final trailer for Scary Movie, the latest installment in the long-running comedy franchise that many fans online have already dubbed Scary Movie 6. Rather than revealing new plot details, the trailer takes aim at modern marketing itself, repeatedly teasing major reveals before pulling back and jokingly telling audiences to go see the movie instead.

The approach feels fitting for a series that has always built its identity around parodying whatever is dominating pop culture at the moment.

The new film reunites original franchise stars Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall as the Core Four find themselves once again caught in the middle of horror movie mayhem. According to the official synopsis, the group returns to face a new wave of genre conventions, taking shots at reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, spin-offs, legacy sequels, elevated horror, and just about every modern franchise trend imaginable.

The timing may work in the film’s favor.

Horror has experienced a significant resurgence at the box office over the last several years, with franchises old and new finding success alongside original titles. That expanded landscape gives Scary Movie plenty of material to work with, from modern slashers and prestige horror to the endless cycle of cinematic universes and legacy characters.

Directed by Michael Tiddes and written by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans, and Rick Alvarez, the film marks the first time in years that the franchise has brought together so many of the creative voices responsible for its earliest entries.

Joining the returning cast are Kenan Thompson, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Kim Wayans, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Damon Wayans Jr., Heidi Gardner, Olivia Rose Keegan, Cameron Scott Roberts, Savannah Lee Nassif, Sydney Park, Gregg Wayans, Benny Zielke, and Ruby Snowber.

The film arrives with an R rating for crude sexual content, graphic nudity, strong violence, drug content, and language throughout.

Scary Movie opens exclusively in theaters, Dolby Cinema, 4DX, and other premium large-format screens on June 5.

The final trailer is available now.

Let us know if you’ll be checking out Scary Movie this weekend and which horror franchise you’re most hoping gets roasted this time around.
