Launching exclusively on Substack on February 7th, First Word on Horror is a 15-part episodic documentary directed by filmmaker Philip Gelatt. Described as a love letter to writers of all kinds, the series highlights some of the most celebrated voices in modern horror literature.
The lineup includes award-winning authors and fan favorites such as Stephen Graham Jones, Paul Tremblay, Elizabeth Hand, Laird Barron, and Mariana Enriquez. These writers will share personal stories, life inspirations, and even read selections of their own short fiction.
The project is part of Gelatt’s collaborative studio, Etch, founded with Will Battersby and Morgan Galen King. Known for their provocative, intelligent, and innovative work, Etch aims to bring dark magic and fantastical storytelling back to moving images.
