@HMUNCUT | Action | Survival Drama | August 1 Release
If the trailer is any sign, Taron Egerton is about to give us the rawest performance of his career. Nick Rowland’s She Rides Shotgun just dropped its official trailer, and this one’s got dirt under its nails, blood on its boots, and a heart beating way harder than expected.
Based on Jordan Harper’s acclaimed novel, this action-thriller leans into pure emotional survival. Egerton stars as Nate, a freshly released ex-con who finds himself instantly hunted by the same enemies that filled his prison nightmares. The only thing more fragile than his freedom? The young daughter he barely knows—and now has to keep alive.
Ana Sophia Heger plays Polly, Nate’s 11-year-old daughter. She’s skittish, smart, and understandably mistrusting of the man now driving her across a hellscape of betrayal, backwoods justice, and cartel-flavored violence. But as the chase escalates, so does their bond—shifting this film from Léon: The Professional vibes into something altogether more primal, more tender, and more brutal.
What hits hardest in the trailer isn’t just the violence (though there’s plenty of it) but the emotional tension between a broken father and a child who’s never had a real chance to hope for anything. Egerton brings real fire—gritty, worn down, and unpredictable. This isn’t the clean-cut spy or the Rocketman rockstar. It’s a man who’s done terrible things, now tasked with showing a young girl how to survive in a world built to destroy them both.
Meanwhile, Polly isn’t just a tagalong—she’s a revelation. Watch as the trailer flips tropes and has her learning how to fight, hide, read people, and stay alive, all while refusing to let go of the innocence and humanity her father long abandoned.
There’s also a killer supporting cast, corrupt sheriffs, brutal gang enforcers, dusty diners, and shotgun shells flying like it’s Sunday morning service in the desert. It’s Hell or High Water meets Logan with a soul, and Rowland’s direction looks both unforgiving and full of grace.
Produced by Lionsgate and Fifth Season, in association with Waypoint Entertainment, Makeready, and Super Frog, She Rides Shotgun hits theaters August 1—just in time to be your late-summer heartbreaker with a body count.
The new poster also dropped today, featuring a striking image of Polly riding shotgun beside her bloodied, silent father—a visual metaphor for everything this movie promises to deliver.
