Constance Wu and William Fichtner Face an Unseen Pursuer in New Sci-Fi Thriller The Outer Threat
Aliens are officially back on the menu.
The first trailer for The Outer Threat has arrived, giving audiences a tense look at an intimate science fiction thriller led by Constance Wu and William Fichtner. The film will be available on digital platforms beginning Friday, July 10.
Written and directed by William Woods, The Outer Threat blends extraterrestrial mystery, family drama, and psychological suspense into a story that asks what happens when a world-changing discovery becomes a fight for survival.
The film follows astrophysicists Daniel and Michelle, who make a groundbreaking discovery connected to extraterrestrial life. Shortly after their revelation, they are forced to flee their home with their family while being relentlessly pursued by an anonymous threat through the countryside.
As they attempt to survive, the line between cosmic truth and human paranoia begins to disappear, leading to a confrontation that challenges their understanding of science, reality, and each other.
The newly released trailer leans heavily into mystery rather than spectacle. Instead of showcasing large-scale alien invasions or explosive action sequences, The Outer Threat appears to favor atmosphere, uncertainty, and emotional tension.

The cast includes Constance Wu, Mark O'Brien, William Fichtner, Callista Crowe, Isaac Smelcer-Zhang, Oscar Hsu, and Murray Furrow.
The project also marks an important milestone for filmmaker William Woods, who makes his feature directorial debut after building an impressive producing résumé over the past decade.
Woods previously produced Mean Dreams, which premiered at Cannes in the Directors' Fortnight section, as well as Castle in the Ground, The Kid Detective, and Honey Bunch, which recently premiered at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival.
The trailer suggests a more grounded approach to science fiction, focusing less on extraterrestrial creatures themselves and more on the ripple effects that a discovery of this magnitude would have on an ordinary family.
With cosmic horror, paranoia-driven thrillers, and elevated science fiction continuing to resonate with audiences, The Outer Threat could carve out its own space among this growing wave of genre films.
One thing is clear after watching the trailer.
Aliens are so back.
The Outer Threat arrives on digital platforms Friday, July 10.
